Spanish at Brook Primary

Modern Foreign Languages Policy

Rationale

Learning a foreign language provides a valuable insight to other cultures and gives children the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the world. In turn, this education will provide the foundation for our children to learn further languages and in later life work in other countries. At Brook, children will listen, understand and respond to the spoken and written language of Spanish from an authentic source.  They will explore the language through songs and rhymes, and be taught to speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity.  They will do this by speaking in sentences using familiar words and phrases, broadening their vocabulary and asking questions whilst continually improving their pronunciation and intonation.  They will develop their skills in writing at varying lengths and for different purposes and audiences.
