What is the Brook Breakfast?
At Brook, we are running a free Breakfast Club to ensure every child has the best
possible start to their day, in line with government priorities to improve pupil wellbeing,
attendance and attainment.
The UK government has highlighted the importance of access to a healthy breakfast and
recognises that children learn better when they are well-fed and settled.
By offering a free provision, we are also supporting families with the ongoing
cost-of-living pressures and helping to remove barriers to learning, ensuring that all
pupils can arrive at school ready to focus, engage and succeed in a calm, supportive
environment.
Below are the key questions and information that you might need about this new and
exciting provision.
Why Are We Introducing This?
This is a fantastic opportunity for our school community and one that we hope will bring
many benefits, including:

• Supporting working families with morning arrangements.
• Ensuring all children have access to a healthy breakfast before learning begins.
• Providing a softer start to the school day for children who find morning transition
challenging.
• Promoting positive wellbeing, social interaction and readiness to learn.
Who is Brook Breakfast club open to?
Brook Breakfast club is open to all children from Reception to year 6. Unfortunately, we
can not offer the club to Butterflies children at this time.
Is there a charge?
No, this service is completely free of charge.
When and where will it run?
The club will run everyday in the school hall. It starts at 8:15am and will finish at 8:45am
ready for the start of the school day.
What about if your child currently attends Buddies before school?
Buddies will continue to open at 7:30am. At 8:15am, the staff will accompany the
children to the hall for the free Brook Breakfast club. As a result of the reduced childcare
hours required, the cost of the morning Brook Buddies session will decrease to £4.00
per session.
What if you child in Butterflies currently attends Buddies?
At present, the programme guidance states that the free breakfast provision is available
only to children of Reception age and above. Therefore, pre-school children will only be
able to access the breakfast offer if they are already attending the Brook Buddies
provision.
How do you book a place on the Brook Breakfast club?
If you would like your child to attend, places must be booked via Arbor. (The booking
system will open this week)
To enable us to plan food quantities and staffing effectively, the booking system will
close on the Friday of the previous week.
Unfortunately, only children who have been booked onto the provision in advance will be able to attend.
A guide to booking on Arbor can be found at the end of this guidance.
What are the arrival arrangements?
The main school gates will be open at 8:10am
Children attending the breakfast club should enter through the year 2 side door
and go directly into the hall.
They will be registered against the book list by a member of SLT.
The gates will close at 8:20am
The gates will then reopen at the usual time of 8:30am for the normal start of the
school day.
Please not that access to the breakfast club will not be available after 8:20am.
What kind of food will be provided?
Children will be given a choice of:
• Cereal
• Toast and/or bagels
• Fresh fruit
Alongside breakfast, there will be a range of games, activities and social opportunities
available, providing a calm and enjoyable start to the day.
What if your child has an allergy?
The club is being run by school staff who will be aware of any children with allergies.
They will be identified on the registers. Food preparation will be carried out in line with
allergy contamination guidelines and under the supervision of the school kitchen
manager.
Staff will be trained in food allergy awareness.
Which staff will run the club?
The club will be staffed by existing support staff, Buddies staff and members of the
senior leadership team, on a weekly rota. All staff have completed Level 2 food Hygiene.
How to book your child's place at Brook Breakfast Club.
The guidance below will provide a clear guide on how to use Arbor to book your child’s place
on the free breakfast club.
All bookings must be made using the Arbor system.
To secure your child’s place, bookings will need to be made by the Friday of the previous
week.
Any child not booked on by this deadline will not be allocated a place at the
breakfast club.
Bookings for Buddies should be made using the current system. We will automatically
add these children to the register
