Caterpillar Hub
Our internal provision is designed to meet the needs of some of our most complex learners.
This support gives the children the best possible support in our mainstream education.
They have been running since September 2023.
- The Caterpillar Hub is a fully self-contained unit where all Hub children can learn together within a structured and supportive environment.
- The Caterpillar Hub offers targeted support and intervention for children with complex needs including delayed communication and language development, complex cognition and learning needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- The Hub will be teacher-led with learning tailored to the children’s stages of development and attainment.
- Teaching will be based on the Early Years Framework and National Curriculum, with the children working on appropriately targeted objectives that match their needs and abilities.
- Children will be grouped according to their learning needs to ensure more focused teaching and targeted support can be offered.
- The Hub will follow a structured timetable that is aligned with the wider school timetable, helping children to develop routine, consistency and a sense of belonging within the school community.
- Children are supported by a team of trained staff who provide a range of learning opportunities tailored to individual needs.
- Some children attending the Hub may find it difficult to access the mainstream classroom independently and need a high level of adult support and interaction.
- The Caterpillar Hub provides a nurturing and welcoming environment that helps children develop trusting relationships with both adults and peers enabling them to begin accessing their classroom environment more successfully. The Hub also offers an adapted learning approach designed to meet the individual learning needs of each child.
- Children in the Hub will access mainstream lessons where their needs and abilities allow them to do so.
